Countries across the globe have been waiting for a vaccine to control the spread of COVID-19. Though it took some time, one after another, multiple nations came up with a number of vaccines, thus putting an end to the wait and bringing hope to the world community. However, the vaccines under development need to be safe to undergo human clinical trials before being inoculated into the general public. Some of the vaccines got approval for emergency use in countries worst hit by the coronavirus pandemic to slow down the transmission rates. Yet, people are reluctant to get the jab due to misinformation and lack of clarity. All one needs is some insights about the vaccine to stay away from fallacies.

Basically, a vaccine contains in it antigen of the disease-causing pathogen. The antigen induces immunity against the virus that infects the human body. Besides, a vaccine in development goes through preclinical phases without involving human beings. The vaccine enters the clinical trial in humans only when it is considered safe for implementation. And it goes through three stages, first in a small number of people, secondly in hundreds, and finally thousands, all of them being volunteers. After analysing the safety and efficacy, the vaccines are approved and rolled out to a broader population. Furthermore, with the increased number of vaccines participating in the trials, the chances are high in obtaining one or more that are safe and efficient.

The aforementioned are norms for almost every vaccine out there, not just about COVID-19 vaccine. Still, people are concerned about getting vaccinated, and that too at a time, nations around the world started vaccinating their populations through massive vaccination programs. The concerns are most generally due to fake news and lack of proper awareness. So, a clarification on the most common questions raised by vaccine recipients must clear out those concerns, and some of them are as follows.

One among the frequently asked questions is that if the COVID-19 vaccination infects one with the virus. And the answer is certainly a no. Since the vaccines approved for inoculation helps the immune system fight the disease-causing virus and do not contain the live virus, it cannot infect the recipient in any way. However, symptoms like fever may occur, which indicates that the body is building immunity against the virus. And some may ask if vaccination is required if one got already infected with COVID-19 and recovered. Yes, since there are chances of reinfection and the duration of natural immunity is still uncertain, immunisation is necessary. Moreover, it is to be noted that it may take a few weeks before the body starts building protection.

To sum it all up, getting immunised is very crucial as it protects not only the recipients but the people living around them as well. Moreover, the vaccines are authorised before public use so that one need not worry about the efficacy and safety of the shots. Besides, it is one’s moral responsibility to get vaccinated since it is significant to curb the spread of the coronavirus and gradually put an end to the pandemic.
